A gorgeous classic amber Murano ‘baloton’ glass ceiling lantern, entirely hand-crafted on the famous glass-making island of Murano in the Venetian lagoon.
The mould for this beautiful traditional ceiling pendant is first fashioned from black nickel wire. The glass-master then blows the molten glass into the frame where it expands into the lovely ribbed shape you see here, before it is allowed to cool.
The hot blown glass is then stamped with a special ‘baloton’ mould to create a raised criss-cross pattern on the glass. This is a very typical centuries-old Venetian glass-making design, which is still very popular today.
If you scroll down to the bottom of this page, you will find an additional image showing parts of the lamp in greater detail than we have been able to show you here.
This piece may bear some tiny imperfection that will attest to its having been fashioned entirely by hand, thus increasing its value and uniqueness. It is based on a historical design and has been crafted using purely traditional techniques.
